The Legend of Memphré:

An Extraordinary Search for the Creature in Lake Memphremagog

Award-winning production house Diversus Inc. is proud to announce the world premiere of The Legend of Memphré. This one-hour satirical documentary explores the myth and murkiness surrounding a mysterious monster in Lake Memphremagog, Quebec and Vermont's most celebrated lake. Watch filmmaker Ari Cohen's humorous pursuit of this legendary creature when it debuts on the Space Network on October 27, 2004, at 10:00 p.m. EST.

Follow Cohen's offbeat, expeditionary force throughout Magog, Quebec and Newport, Vermont, along with famed U.S. paranormal investigator Dr. Joe Nickell, Canadian parapsychologist Dr. Darryll Walsh, neighbourhood high school-teacher-turned-psychic Bob Murray, crypto-dracontologist Jacques Boisvert, and a host of other unusual characters as they set out on a makeshift flotilla to look for the real story behind the monster in one of the world's biggest and most cavernous lakes.

As the film unfolds, the crew learns Memphré is not only mysterious and reluctant to be found, but also embroiled in a strange, greedy copyright battle south of the border. Delicious and satirical, The Legend of Memphré celebrates extreme filmmaking while confronting our voracious appetite to believe in the unexplained.

The Legend of Memphré was produced and directed by Ari Cohen and Evan Beloff of Diversus Inc. Throughout the past six years, Diversus has produced many memorable films such as Too Colourful for the League (1999), Schmelvis, Searching for the King's Jewish Roots (2000), Irving Layton, A Red Carpet for the Sun (2001), Women Warriors (TV series/website) (2002-04), Being Osama (2004), Cruising Quebec (2004) and soon to be released: Guido Molinari: A life in art, The Making of the Ice Hotel and Airlift to Hope.
